Kindle 2 Price Reduced

I've been "thinking" that I want a Kindle DX. I'm still trying to justify the price tag knowing how much I prefer paper copies. However, I think that having an e-reader would allow for a lot of versatility in reviewing books. More and more publishers are making PDF books and excerpts available to reviewers, but unless you have a laptop or an e-reader you will have to sit and stare at a desktop monitor to read them. I am very glad that publishers are doing this. There is a lot of cost involved in sending out review copies, and this is a business savvy move. I would be glad to read more digital books if I had a better way of doing so.

Last week I purchased an ASUS Eee PC. We wanted a portable computer, but didn't necessarily need a full-fledged laptop. So far, we love it. However, due to the screen orientation and lack of nifty page-turning, and highlighting tools native to most e-readers, it still isn't the best setup for reading digital books. It's much better than sitting at a desktop, but I'd love to see a netbook manufacturer offer e-reading functionality. If any of you are aware of one, please let me know.

In the meantime, the Amazon Kindle still seems to be the best option. Having reviewed the specs, I believe that the Kindle DX is the best match for how I'd like to use an e-reader. If any of you have and e-reader, I'd love to hear what you think about it. I'm particularly interested in knowing how pastors and teachers are making use of these tools.

Yesterday I read a note (HT: blog Kindle) announcing that Amazon has reduced it's price on the Kindle 2. It appears that they are doing so well at promoting the Kindle DX that it is already out of stock. The price of the Kindle 2 is now down to $299.00 and the Kindle DX is selling at $489.00. Below, you will find a comparison of the two e-readers.
